New 'The Nut Job' Trailer Is Jam-Packed With Gags (VIDEO)

If you like spastic animation, flatulence jokes, and villainous vermin, then you're going to love the new trailer for "The Nut Job."

The clip follows a scheming squirrel (Will Arnett) who accidentally torches the entire winter food supply for his fellow park-dwelling critters, and sets off on a mission to rob a nearby nut store to replenish their stock. Arnett actually seems well-suited to the role, his deep voice making quips like "the lost city of Nut-lantis" seem a bit less eye roll-inducing.

The same can't be said for the rest of the trailer, whose frantic pace and willingness to pack in as many immature gags as possible (there are burp AND fart jokes, in case one embarrassing emission isn't enough) doesn't exactly bode well for the parents who have to sit through this movie with their kids. In fact, the clip itself seems to perfectly personify the hyperactive 8-year-old the movie is aimed at.

Still, there are some redeeming moments (the exchange about whether peanut brittle is a candy or a nut is fairly amusing), and the brisk, vivid animation is sure to capture kids' attention. Here's hoping there's more bright spots like those in the full feature.

"The Nut Job" features the voices of Arnett, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser, Jeff Dunham, Maya Rudolph, and Gabriel Iglesias. It opens January 17, 2014.
