Winona Ryder Plays Coy About 'Beetlejuice 2'

Winona Ryder Beetlejuice sequel

Surely there can't be a "Beetlejuice" sequel without Winona Ryder? Well, Ryder won't confirm that she'll be revisiting her teen angst queen Lydia Deetz -- but she won't deny it either. She told The Daily Beast that she's "kind of sworn to secrecy," adding, "But it sounds like it might be happening."

We think she knows way more than she lets on though, because she also said, "It's not a remake... It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later."

When we last saw Lydia, she was happily sharing a home with her living (and so lame) parents and the undead couple she became friends with, Adam and Barbara Maitland. (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis played the ghoulish lovebirds, and Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones were the elder Deetzes.) Meanwhile, they'd successfully banished Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to the amazingly weird and bureaucratic afterlife.

Now that director Tim Burton is in talks for the sequel, and Keaton has thrown his hat in the ring, chances are good that Ryder could be persuaded to join them. We -- and the talented GIF-makers of Tumblr who are still obsessing over Lydia's fantastically teased 'do and ongoing existential crisis -- are shivering with anticipation.

You can catch Ryder in "Homefront," with Jason Statham and James Franco, when it opens on November 27.
