Emerson College Is Naming Its Communications School After Ron Burgundy

He's kind of a big deal, and now legendary news anchor Ron Burgundy is getting a communications school named after him -- for one day, anyway.



On December 4, Boston's Emerson College will (just for the day) rename its communications program the Ron Burgundy School of Communication, in honor of the fictional star of "Anchorman." An official renaming ceremony, featuring Burgundy's off-screen alter ego Will Ferrell, will take place before an advance screening of the long-awaited sequel, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."



In a press release, Emerson College President Lee Pelton called Burgundy "someone who understands the power of media, as well as hairspray, first-hand," while Phillip Glenn, Interim Dean of the School of Communication, said Burgundy inspires aspiring journalists "to live out our dreams, in full color and matching polyester."



For his part, the always classy Burgundy said he was excited to be honored by the school.



"I can't wait to inspire students with my story of how I got to the top...the very top," Burgundy said via press release. "I'm not going to sugarcoat it. It's a lot of work, especially if you don't have good hair."



Burgundy has been getting quite the media workout in the run-up to "Anchorman 2"'s release. He's featured heavily in a new exhibit at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., and also has a memoir due out this week.



"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" hits theaters December 20.
