A new trailer for "Hercules: The Legend Begins" -- a.k.a. the Hercules film NOT starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson -- is here, and it offers plenty of action and effects that should appease fans of films like "300."
In fact, "The Legend Begins" appears to take its cinematography directly from Zack Snyder's playbook, and as SlashFilm notes, the plot also seems to borrow heavily from "Gladiator" as well. Its resemblance to those earlier works perhaps doesn't bode well for differentiating itself from Johnson's upcoming crack at the Greek myth (due out next summer), but we suppose audiences will be able to judge that for themselves.
This trailer tells a more concise story than the last, focusing on Hercules (Kellan Lutz, of "Twilight" fame) and his love for a betrothed princess. He vows to win her back, but is then exiled by his less-than-doting stepfather.
When said stepfather later goads him on -- "Where is your strength now, half-god?" he sneers -- the son of Zeus unleashes hell. Doesn't anyone in Greek mythology ever learn the lesson not to invoke the wrath of the gods?
"Hercules: The Legend Begins" hits theaters January 10, 2014.
