'Star Wars: Episode VII' First Behind-the-Scenes Photo is Horribly Awkward

Yesterday, Bad Robot, the production company run by J.J. Abrams, sent out a tweet that said, simply, "Hi from the workshop" along with hash tag that read "#StarWarsVII." Accompanying the tweet was a behind-the-scenes photo from the Bad Robot office that had Abrams and Lucasfilm president (and "Star Wars: Episode VII" producer) Kathleen Kennedy, awkwardly positioned around a full-size R2D2. As far as staged behind-the-scenes photos go, this was a painfully awkward photo (via Entertainment Weekly).

There are a lot of things that make this almost unbearable to look at: the fact that Abrams isn't exactly smiling ("we're having so much fun!"), those two weird white guys standing behind R2D2 (maybe they're the robot's handlers?), and Kennedy's positioning and body language. The producer isn't even looking at the camera and instead can be seen in profile, giving Abrams what trash talkers the world over would describe as "the stink eye."

The photo doesn't exactly do a lot to dispel the rumors that Abrams and Kennedy are constantly butting heads over the direction of the film, which has so far already resulted in one creative casualty: original screenwriter Michael Arndt, who won an Oscar for "Little Miss Sunshine" and was nominated for another with "Toy Story 3."

"Star Wars: Episode VII" recently received a December 18, 2015 release date, but little else is known about the movie, besides the fact that it probably takes place in space.
