Well, it was only a matter of time... "Sesame Street," the award-winning children's series that has recently sent up "Mad Men" and "Homeland," has now decided to take on "The Hunger Games." And what better timing, right? With "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opening this week, "Hunger Games" hysteria is reaching a fever pitch. And this? This is just too adorable.
The parody (via Vulture) is entitled "The Hungry Games: Catching Fur." In it, The Cookie Monster stars as Cookieness Evereat, who has to solve a series of confounding puzzles that all involve food (when faced with a shape-based puzzle, Cookie Monster has to eat a clock). It's pretty hilarious and cute, full of witty wordplay and puns like pita bread playing the part of Peeta and dialogue like, "Being strong heroine of entire franchise hard work."
"Sesame Street" has long been a place where surprisingly edgy comedy and education intersect, and if you want to know more about how the show was developed and realized, we highly recommend the amazing nonfiction book "Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street" by TV Guide writer Michael Davis. Knowing the hard work that went into "Sesame Street" will make you appreciate these funny little spoofs even more.
