Oscars 2014: Best Supporting Actor Goes to Jared Leto

Jared Leto Best Supporting Oscar

The Oscars 2014 Best Supporting Actor race had slowly become a one man show. The five nominees were Michael Fassbender for "12 Years a Slave," Jared Leto for "Dallas Buyers Club," Jonah Hill for "Wolf of Wall Street," Barkhad Abdi for "Captain Phillips," and Bradley Cooper for "American Hustle."

And the winner for Best Supporting Actor is Jared Leto for "Dallas Buyers Club."

Going into the Academy Awards this year, Leto was the heavy favorite for the Oscar, having won the vast majority of awards this season. Surprisingly, Barkhad Abdi won the Supporting Actor BAFTA, but was still seen as an underdog heading into Oscar night.

The talented Jared Leto was nominated for his role as Rayon, a transgender AIDS patient, opposite Matthew McConaughey in "Dallas Buyers Club." Prior to filming, Leto had taken a several years-long hiatus from acting to focus on his band, "30 Seconds to Mars" full time. The nomination was the actor's first and -- after piling up the awards this January -- was the clear favorite for the Oscars.
