What do you get when you combine Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres with a crazy number of A-list actors including Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong'o? A ridiculously star-studded selfie that crashes Twitter.
DeGeneres caused the online meltdown immediately following her quest to score the most retweets of all time on the microblogging site, when she encouraged a group of stars to cram together for an epic photo during the Academy Awards broadcast Sunday night. The host was walking through the crowd taking individual selfies with several stars when she decided to go for a big group photo, beckoning Streep, Roberts, JLaw, and others to join her.
Spacey and Leto snuck in on the fringes of the shot, while Streep fussed over whether she should be the one to snap the photo using Ellen's camera phone (the acting legend admitted she's never tweeted before). Roberts tried to hurry the group along, remarking that she was about to "drop a boob" if she stayed in the same awkward position too long.
The spontaneous snap made for a fun, freewheeling moment during the broadcast, and one that exemplified what the Oscars telecast is at its best: completely unpredictable, irreverent water cooler fodder. Though we're honestly a little mad at Ellen for temporarily taking down Twitter with all the traffic the photo generated.
If only Bradley's arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars http://ift.tt/1hVJDfb
