Tony Stark fans may be bummed to learn that, aside from two upcoming "Avengers" sequels, their hero may not get another standalone flick.
In an interview with Variety, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that "Iron Man 4" wasn't currently in the cards -- and may not happen at all.
"There isn't one in the pipe," Downey said of the potential sequel. "No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
Downey will continue playing Stark in the next two "Avengers" films: "Age of Ultron," due out next spring, and another untitled sequel set to hit theaters in May 2018. But as for his future as Iron Man following those flicks? That remains unclear.
When asked by Variety if he would "let" another actor take over the role, Downey laughed off the question, insinuating he had no control over the situation. But his "Judge" co-star, Robert Duvall, had some words of wisdom.
"Don't give it to anybody else," Duvall told Downey of the part.
Iron Man -- played by Downey, for now -- will next grace the big screen in "Avengers: Age of Ulton," in theaters on May 1, 2015.
