New 'Frozen' Clip Features Josh Gad's Singing Snowman Olaf

Disney has a history with snowmen, but most of the time they're really scary. Take, for instance, the Abominable Snowman from the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction at Disneyland (originally opened in 1959) or the even more ferocious Yeti from Expedition Everest -- Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, a roller coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida. (More than a half-decade before Pixar unleashed "Toy Story" with Disney, they made a 3D short film called "Knick Knack" about a cuddly, sexually frustrated snowman trapped in a snow globe.) Now, in the upcoming "Frozen," Disney is about to bring a snowman to life that every little kid will want to pick up and hug, and his name is Olaf.

Voiced by Josh Gad, Olaf is a snowman who was created by sisters Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) as children. Later, when Elsa's magical snow powers enchant the entire kingdom, Olaf springs to life, aiding Anna in her quest to put an end to the permanent winter Elsa has manifested. In this brand new clip, you get to see Olaf's big musical number. While this is kind of disappointing, considering it really packs a punch in the final film, it's still a delightful stand-alone piece. We were shown the footage at the D23 Expo this past summer and it went over like gangbusters.

In the sequence, Olaf imagines what it will be like when summer comes. At a recent screening, songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (who worked with Gad on Broadway's "Book of Mormon") said that the key to the song was understanding Olaf's childlike innocence and naïveté. An earlier, calypso-y version of the song was ditched because it was a little too knowing.

To say that Olaf steals "Frozen" is an understatement of the highest order, and a big part of that is how well this song goes over. It's a snowy showstopper and Disney's newest snowman might also be its best.

"Frozen" opens on November 27. It is amazing.
