The official start to summer is upon us, but in the land of TV the season kicked off when many of our favorite shows aired their finales. We already had to part with some of our most beloved series, and with last week marking the end of "Game of Thrones," it feels like there's quite the void to be filled.
Fortunately the days to come are still filled with fresh programming to get hooked on. What makes that even more great is that some of the new shows are especially exciting. And their premieres are just around the corner. Some very successful TV shows made their debuts in the summer, and it looks like 2014 might just introduce us to a few new favorites.
If you're not sure what to watch over the new few months, here's your guide (trailers included!) to the most anticipated new shows of the summer season:
'Rising Star' (ABC, June 22)
This singing competition has a twist: You're the judge. The audience weighs in in real time and makes or breaks the contestants' fates during their live performances. Kesha, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley serve as judges.
'Girl Meets World' (Disney Channel, June 27)
Disney brings us this belated spinoff of the popular '90s TGIF show, "Boy Meets World." Original stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fisher return as mom and dad. Nostalgia abounds.
'The Leftovers ' (HBO, June 29)
Created by Damon Lindelof ("Lost") and author Tom Perlotta, this series follows the aftermath of a mysterious "rapture" and explores the lives of those left behind.
'Extant' (CBS, July 9)
Halle Berry plays an astronaut who returns home from a 13-month solo mission. But... she's not alone.
'The Strain ' (FX, July 13)
Guillermo del Toro serves up a vampire thriller about a super scary looking New York City viral outbreak.

Judy Greer stars in this relationship comedy about a couple dealing with the ups and downs of married life.
'The Quest ' (ABC, July 31)
Find out what happens when fantasy and reality collide! This competition show pits 12 contestants together in a fantasy world under siege by an evil warlock, where they engage in "epic challenges" that involve mythical creatures and "agents of darkness."
'Bachelor in Paradise' (ABC, August 4)
Drama obviously ensues when former 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette' contestants are isolated on a tropical island. Will they finally find love?
'The Knick ' (Cinemax, August 8)
Cinemax's creepy look at the groundbreaking medical practices of New York's The Knickerbocker hospital back in 1900. Clive Owen stars and Steven Soderbergh directs.
'Outlander ' (Starz, August 9)
Based on the popular novels by Diana Gabaldon, "Outlander" follows the romance and adventures of a woman who falls back in time to 18th Century Scotland.
'Legends ' (TNT, August 13)
An undercover FBI agent has the ability to completely transform himself for each of his cases.
