But why, oh why, are we teased with just 10 episodes?
With the books running close to or over 1,000 pages a pop, it's not for a lack of story. But as HBO has said in the past, it's about quality, not quantity. To quote an early piece by TV Guide:
"As for longer seasons? Executives said they wouldn't be able to do more without lengthy delays or diluting the quality of the stories."
We have to imagine there are budgetary concerns as well. "Game of Thrones" features CGI, elaborate sets and costumes, as well as multiple international locales -- some of which aren't the easiest to shoot in, including Northern Ireland, Malta, Scotland, Croatia, Iceland, the United States, and Morocco.
Given all that goes into making "Game of Thrones," maybe we should be grateful for the 10 episodes we do get. "True Detective" was just eight episodes, after all.
