After holding multiple open casting calls to discover new talent for the "Star Wars: Episode VII" cast, Lucasfilm and Disney announced this weekend that two fresh-faced actors would be joining the ensemble.
Newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson have been cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles in "Episode VII," according to an official press release. They were selected from the more than 37,000 hopefuls vying for a part at casting calls that took place in 11 cities in the U.S. and the U.K. late last year, in addition to 30,000 actors who submitted applications online.
From the release:
Crystal Clarke is an American actress studying in Glasgow, UK, who has both stage and screen acting experience and is soon to be seen in her first feature, The Moon and the Sun (to be released in 2015). British actor Pip Andersen is a skilled practitioner of parkour, a discipline that involves propelling oneself through any given environment with incredible grace and agility. Pip recently demonstrated this remarkable skill in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy added that the "Star Wars" films have "always been about discovering and nurturing young talent" -- after all, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher were all relative unknowns when the original series began back in 1977 -- and Kennedy said that "Episode VII" producers "wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition."
The release also noted that principal photography would continue at Pinewood Studios in London until August, when production will break for two weeks to reshuffle the shooting schedule to accommodate Ford's recovery from a broken leg. The actor was injured last month while shooting a scene involving the Millennium Falcon, when a door fell on his leg.
"Harrison is doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon," the release said, adding that "Shooting remains on track to wrap in the fall." That last bit is no doubt meant to put to rest rumors that the film's scheduled release date may be pushed back to deal with the delays caused by Ford's injury.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is due in theaters on December 18, 2015.
