'Jeopardy!' Host Alex Trebek Sets World Record for Longest-Running Presenter

jeopardy alex trebek record"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek became the answer to his own bit of trivia last week when the longtime game show host set a Guinness World Record for most episodes of a single game show hosted by the same presenter.

Trebek hit the milestone last Friday, when he wrapped his 6,829th episode of the venerable quiz show. The "Jeopardy!" host beat out former "The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker, the previous holder of the Guinness record.

Despite suffering several heart attacks throughout "Jeopardy!"'s 30-year run under his tenure, Trebek has never missed an episode due to illness. The only installment of the show he didn't helm during that timeframe came in 1997, when he switched duties with "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak for an April Fool's Day prank.

"It's an honor to hold the Guinness World Record for hosting Jeopardy!, which I've often said is the best of reality T.V.," Trebek said in a statement. "We have had incredible support from our viewers for the past 30 years, and without them, I wouldn't have set this record."

Trebek was presented with a plaque commemorating the milestone last week. He joked in a video interview that the record meant that he'd "been around a long time," but added that he was happy to hold the distinction.

"The good news is that as long as I keep hosting the program, I stay ahead of whoever's in second place," Trebek added.
