Elisabeth Moss may soon be surrounded by a different kind of "Mad Men."
The actress is up for the female lead role in season 2 of HBO's "True Detective," according to The Wrap. The Golden Globe-winning star (of "Top of the Lake") joins several other names reportedly in talks for roles, including Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Michelle Forbes.
The Wrap also has the scoop on the plot of season 2, which creator Nic Pizzolatto has kept shrouded in secrecy. The storyline reportedly centers on the murder of Ben Caspar, a corrupt mayor of a small town in California. Three investigators from different law enforcement branches come together to try find the killer. Complicating matters is that satanic symbols were found on Caspar's body and he may have been involved with an occult group.
Moss would play a local sheriff with a taste for alcohol and gambling, while Farrell and Kitsch would round out the investigative team. Meanwhile, Vaughn is in talks to play Frank Semyon, a shady businessman who stood to gain a lot from a highway deal that Caspar put together.
Moss would certainly be a great choice to lead the show, having won accolades as ambitious ad woman Peggy Olson on "Mad Men" and several awards as a troubled cop on Sundance's miniseries, "Top of the Lake."
