First Look and Shocking New Details on 'Terminator: Genisys'

Terminator GenisysAre you ready for a different kind of "Terminator"?

As Entertainment Weekly reports in this week's cover story, the first film in the new "Terminator" movie trilogy will changes things up in a significant way for the franchise.

The story starts off in familiar fashion: It's 2029, in the midst of the war between humans and machines. Rebel leader John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends his loyal soldier, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), back in time to 1984 to save Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) - and father her son.

But in "Genisys," there's a twist, involving original movie series star Arnold Schwarzenegger:

Sarah Connor isn't the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton's steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991's T2. Rather, the mother of humanity's messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she's been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger's Terminator - an older T-800 she calls "Pops" - who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who's great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

POPS?!

It seems this reboot of "Terminator" is really a mega-reboot, with Sarah Connor knowing about Terminators for most of her life. Does this essentially erase the first two movies? (That would be a crime!)

But let's take a breath and reserve judgment (day) until the movie hits theaters July 1, 2015.
