After some behind-the-scenes shuffling, the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic "Jobs" has secured its leading man: Christian Bale.
Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin revealed the official casting news in an interview with Bloomberg Television, noting that Bale was the obvious choice for the part -- and didn't even need to audition.
"We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range, and that's Chris Bale," Sorkin told Bloomberg.
The casting aligns with director David Fincher's earlier selection of Bale as his top choice to play the Apple founder. But Fincher eventually abandoned the project -- sources say over budget concerns -- and replacement director Danny Boyle had zeroed in on Leonardo DiCaprio for the role, before that connection also fell by the wayside.
Previous reports indicated that Fincher wanted Bale for the role in large part due to his strong physical resemblance to the late Jobs, but Sorkin told Bloomberg that it was the Oscar-winning actor's talent that put him at the top of the casting list. The screenwriter said that Bale's skills would come in handy for the challenging part ahead.
"He has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined," Sorkin told Bloomberg. "There isn't a scene or a frame that he's not in. So it's an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it."
We can't wait. Production is set to begin sometime in the next few months.
