The New York Film Critics Circle has announced its list of winners for its 2014 awards, and "Boyhood" nabbed three of the top prizes, including Best Picture.
The Richard Linklater film, shot over a period of 12 years, took home that award, as well as Best Director for Linklater and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. The NYFCC prides itself on its eclectic honoree choices, calling itself "a principled alternative to the Oscars honoring aesthetic merit in a forum that is immune to commercial pressures."
Other notable winners includes Best Supporting Actor honoree J.K. Simmons ("Whiplash") and Best Actress honoree Marion Cotillard, who won for her performances in two different films: "The Immigrant" and "Two Days, One Night." "The LEGO Movie" took home the Best Animated Film prize.
