Medicine has come a very long way, and that's the focus of Cinemax's new drama, "The Knick," directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Clive Owen. Set in 1900 New York at the Knickerbocker Hospital, the 10-episode series follows the staff as they try to save lives without the help of antibiotics.
"More has been learned about the treatment of the human body in the last five years than was learned in the previous 500," Owen's surgeon character notes in a brand-new trailer.
The teaser is dark and shadowy, and weird and sinister. "The Knick" almost looks like a horror movie, with shots of patients writhing on tables, bloody organs in bowls, and nurses running down badly-lit corridors.
"The Knick" premieres August 8 on Cinemax. Yes, Cinemax.
