On Sunday night, fans of AMC's "The Walking Dead" were split into two camps: Either reeling from the death of a major character following the season five midseason finale, or raging at the network for posting an image of the deceased character on Facebook immediately following the East Coast broadcast -- and before millions of West Coast and international viewers had the chance to watch the episode.
Understandably, those who had yet to see the episode were pretty upset with AMC, and left tens of thousands of comments voicing their disapproval. On Monday, the network issued a mea culpa, admitting that it made a mistake in sending out the image so soon after the broadcast, and promising to think more clearly about such posts in the future.
"We heard your feedback to last night's post, and we're sorry," the page wrote. "With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we're going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead."
That post was liked and shared fewer times than its predecessor, but it seems that fans have mostly forgiven the network for its faux pas. One enterprising poster suggested an even better way that AMC could patch things up with fans, writing, "You know...you could make up for it with a new sneak peek from February."
We wouldn't be opposed to that solution, either.
"The Walking Dead" returns from its midseason hiatus in February.
