Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis on Shortlist for 'Suicide Squad' Role

Premiere Of HBO Documentary Films'

Among the hubbub over the much-touted "Suicide Squad" casting, one key detail seems to have been overlooked: Oprah Winfrey is reportedly producers' top pick for a high-profile part in the film.

According to Variety, Winfrey is at the top of a very short list of actresses being considered to play Amanda Waller, who oversees the titular group of villains (akin to Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, in the "Avengers" universe). Also being considered for the part are Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.

Since almost all of the villainous roles have been cast so far, it would seem that producers are eager to square away their Amanda soon. Filming is expected to begin in April.

David Ayer ("Fury") is directing. "Suicide Squad" features an all-star, eclectic ensemble, including Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
