Adam Sandler Partners with Netflix on 4 New Movies

Premiere Of Paramount Pictures'

Hollywood heavyweight Adam Sandler is taking his talents to streaming: The bankable comedian is eschewing the studio system to release four upcoming films exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix will work with Sandler's Happy Madison production company on the yet-to-be-announced comedies, in which the actor will also star. The films will premiere on Netflix in every one of countries in which it operates.

"When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only ... Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks," Sandler said in a (not at all gross) statement. "Let the streaming begin!!!!"

"People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer. "His appeal spans across viewers of all ages - everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line - not just in the U.S. but all over the world."

Netflix seems to be on a roll lately, after news that it would be the home of the upcoming "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" sequel broke earlier this week. The Sandler deal will no doubt draw even more eyeballs -- and publicity -- to the streaming service.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix will provide budgets for the four films on par with those of the comedian's studio projects -- potentially in the $80 million range. No word on a timeframe for the movies' production and release was available.
