'Angry Birds' Movie Voice Cast Includes Comedy's Finest

The Toy Fair

The long-in-the-works "Angry Birds" movie is getting ready to take flight, and it's got an all-star comedy cast to breathe life into its animalistic projectiles.

Sony Pictures and Rovio announced this week that Peter Dinklage, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride will lead the feature adaptation of the popular smartphone game. And the impressive ensemble doesn't stop there: Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Latin musician Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Smosh (aka Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla) will also voice characters in the movie.

Unsurprisingly, filmmakers were excited about the star-studded group that they nabbed for the flick.

"I'm extremely proud of this cast," said producer John Cohen in a statement. "Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they're surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent - these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we're thrilled to have them all on board."

Sitcom vet ("The Simpsons," "The Office") and "Ice Age" scribe Jon Vitti is penning the screenplay, while Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly are directing.

"Angry Birds" is due in theaters on July 1, 2016.
