'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Will Have More Visual Effects Than Any Other Marvel Movie

Marvel is upping its visual effects game with forthcoming "Avengers" sequel "Age of Ultron," as one of the studio's effects executives has revealed that the flick will have the most visual effects shots of any Marvel movie.

Victoria Alonso, the executive vice president of visual effects and postproduction for Marvel Studios, told a crowd at the VES Summit this weekend that the studio is constantly one-upping itself in terms of the scope of its projects, and that includes "Ultron." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alonso, who is executive producing the flick, "anticipates topping 3,000 VFX shots for the 'Avengers' sequel, which would make it Marvel's largest VFX shot count to date. She previously exec produced 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' which maxed out at 2,500, and 'Guardians on the Galaxy,' which reached 2,750."

That's a whole lot of CGI, though Alonso told THR that Marvel planned to work with "seven to 12 VFX vendors in five to seven different countries" to ensure a diverse array of effects.

Alonso's comments confirm previous reports that the motion-capture work with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, specifically, will be amped up for the "Avengers" follow-up. And with multiple cast members chiming in that "Ultron" will be bigger and badder than its predecessor, we can only imagine that other actors are getting even more invested in the green screen game, too.

We'll get to see the fruits of Marvel's visual effects labors when "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens on May 1, 2015.
