"Adventure Time: The Complete Fourth Season"
If you're not a fan of this sweetly silly animated series on the Cartoon Network, it's time you got acquainted with Finn and his canine pal Jake and their weird adventures in the Land of Ooo. Seriously, this is one of the coolest cartoons out there! Just ask Princess Bubblegum or adorable Marceline the Vampire Queen.
"American Horror Story: Coven"
Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies is not your typical boarding school, but what would you expect from Ryan Murphy et al? Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, and Jamie Brewer play the newest arrivals at the Academy in New Orleans, led by the Academy's meek headmistress Cordelia Foxx. Jessica Lange appears as Fiona Goode, the Supreme Witch who's squandered her powers by living large; now that her time is approaching, she turns to a former enemy, voodoo queen Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) for a truly desperate solution. Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Frances Conroy, Denis O'Hare, Danny Huston, and Lily Rabe co-star in this creepy ensemble.
"Edge of Tomorrow"
This summer's Tom Cruise actioner was originally released under the title "Edge of Tomorrow," but whatever you want to call it, it's a whole lot of alien-fightin' fun. Emily Blunt co-stars as the kick-ass soldier training him to fight until he gets it right.
TV Worth Watching
"American Horror Story: Freak Show" (FX, Wednesday at 10 P.M. EST)
The Ryan Murphy gang reassembles for this creepy period piece about the waning world of the sideshow. Jessica Lange leads the way as fabulous Elsa Mars, the manager of the freak show who has plenty of her own secrets. Sarah Paulson makes magic as conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler, with Kathy Bates as the "bearded lady" Ethel Darling, Angela Bassett as three-breasted performer Desiree Dupree, Evan Peters as Jimmy Darling, and much more.
"Supernatural" (The CW, Tuesday at 9 P.M. EST)
It's the 10th season premiere of "Supernatural," and we have yet to get sick of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester. If you feel like it, there's also "a very special 'Supernatural'" show tonight at 9 P.M. that will be a nice retrospective for those of us who have trouble remembering what we had for lunch yesterday, much less the plot of a show over the past nine years.
"The Walking Dead" (AMC, Sunday at 9 PM EST)
It's time to catch up with Rick Grimes and his buddies, who have found themselves at the mercy of the denizens of Terminus. Who are the Terminans, and what do they want? This episode is called "No Sanctuary," so we have a hunch Rick et al are in some deep zombie doo doo.

"Carrie"
Okay, nothing really beats the Brian De Palma original, but why not give this modern-day remake a try? Chloe Moretz stars as the freaky prom queen, with Julianne Moore as her tormented and tormenting mother. Keep an eye out for Ansel Egort as Carrie's prom date, back before he hit the big time with "The Fault in Our Stars."
"Gilmore Girls"
The entire series hit Netflix Instant on October 1. Either you've already watched them all and have started over again - in which case, seriously, the outside world is nice, you should check it out - or you're still working through the adventures of Lorelai and Rory. Either way, you can't really go wrong.

"Monsieur Hulot's Holiday" (iTunes)
There's a whole lot of Jacques Tati floating around on iTunes, thanks to an upcoming Criterion box set release. Director Tati stars as Monsieur Hulot, a bumbling French fellow who inadvertently leaves a stream of chaos in his wake. In this first film about Hulot's misadventures, he goes to a seaside town for a holiday and accidentally causes a ruckus or five.
"Penny Dreadful Season 1" (iTunes)
Showtime's totally over-the-top Victorian drama stars Eva Green as the babely medium Vanessa Ives, with various other weird and/or supernatural characters from 19th century literature swanning around. The cool cast includes Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett, Harry Treadaway, and Reeve Carney, among others.
"The Purge: Anarchy" (iTunes)
Can't wait until "Anarchy" hits DVD and Blu-ray later this month? Rent or buy it on iTunes so you can live vicariously through these variously terrible people. Bad summer fun can be yours all year round!
