The Latest 'Batman vs. Superman' Rumors Say Wonder Woman Will Wear Armor, Have Kryptonian Roots

Filmmakers behind "Man of Steel" sequel "Batman vs. Superman" have been tight-lipped about how Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will fit into the movie's plot. Now, some speculation floating around about the character could shed some light on what Zack Snyder & co. have in store for the superheroine.

The first comes courtesy of El Mayimbe, who claims that the character's costume will be made up of armor, rather than her iconic red, white, and blue barely-there ensemble.

Screen Rant suggests that outfitting Wonder Woman in such heavy attire means that she'll be an integral part of the movie's action, fighting alongside (or perhaps against) Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman. Add this possible new look to the fact that Gadot has reportedly been training in martial arts to prepare for the part, and it seems likely that we'll be seeing Wonder Woman kick some major ass in "Batman vs. Superman."

The next bit of speculation comes from Bill "Jett" Ramey at Batman-On-Film, who has a theory about how Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer will handle Wonder Woman's backstory. Ramey thinks that they could reference a storyline that has Wonder Woman's race, the Amazonians, descend from ancient Kryptonians "who attempted to set up Kryptonian outposts throughout spacedom thousands and thousands of years ago." His theory continues:

Furthermore, I say that Wonder Woman will be powered-down, if you will, relative to Superman because these Amazons have evolved and adapted to living on Earth for hundreds of centuries. And since Kryptonians are produced without any "He'n and She'n" - Jor El and Lara excluded - couldn't this original Kryptonian on Earth have used this reproductive science to create an all-female race? I say yes!

It sounds like an interesting spin on the character, which would set up some nice conflict with Superman. Ramey cautions that this is just his own speculation, and not actually a real rumor at this time; however, he tends to have quite a bit of insider info on the film already, so he could be on to sometime. Only time will tell.

"Batman vs. Superman" is due out July 17, 2015.
