After stalling in TV development purgatory for more than three years, a small-screen adaptation of the "Transporter" series is finally getting off the ground.

"Transporter the Series," which originally went into production back in 2011, has been picked up by TNT, which will air the series starting sometime this fall. It's also greenlit a second season, to be shot next month.

Based on the three-film "Transporter" franchise starring Jason Statham (above), the TV adaptation was first developed by Cinemax, but suffered setbacks including departing showrunners and an injured leading man. After a long delay, TNT decided to pick up the series, which is planning an international shoot for its second season in locales including Morocco, the Czech Republic, and Canada.

Chris Vance takes over Statham's role of Frank Martin, a man who transports goods internationally without question.

"'Transporter the Series' is a roller-coaster ride with big-screen action, fantastic locations and an extremely charismatic lead in Chris Vance," said TNT's Michael Wright. "The 'Transporter' franchise is a proven winner embraced by movie and television viewers around the globe, and we're proud that TNT will become the television home for fans in the United States."
