As several stirring biopics prepare to battle for Oscar gold, a new entry in the category looks like a contender for next year's awards.
A new trailer for "Cesar Chavez" is now available. The biopic about the labor rights activist was directed by "Y Tu Mama Tambien" actor Diego Luna and stars Michael Peña ("End of Watch," "American Hustle) in the titular role.
Chavez was a Mexican-American who organized a strike of California farmhands in the 1960s. His efforts drew national attention and the support of Robert Kennedy.
When the protests become violent, Chavez goes on a hunger strike. "I failed you as a leader, and I will fast until everyone makes a pledge recommitting themselves to nonviolence," he declares in the trailer.
The movie looks like the kind of powerful, moving biopic that awards voters love.
"Cesar Chavez" also stars America Ferrera, Rosario Dawson, and John Malkovich, and opens in theaters March 28.
