Benedict Cumberbatch Ready to Climb 'Blood Mountain'

25th Annual Producers Guild Of America Awards - Show

We've seen Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange, we've seen him as Smaug, and we've definitely seen him as Sherlock. We've even seen his startlingly accurate Chewbacca imitation. Are you ready for Cumby to take on an intense military actioner?

Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to star in "Blood Mountain," which sounds like a real switcheroo from previous projects. It's the tale of a mercenary who's the only one left standing after his team is killed during a raid. He's left with the task of taking the world's number one terrorist to justice, but meanwhile they've gotta dodge plenty of bad guys along the way.

The full plot is described by UK-based Derby Street Films as "an Afghan-based adventure story," with Sergey Bodrov ("Seventh Son," "Mongol") attached to direct. Variety reports that filming will begin in April in Morocco. It seems likely that Cumberbatch will appear as the mercenary, although it would be pretty cool to see him flex his scary side as the world's most dangerous man.

Cumberbatch spent the fall filming "The Imitation Game" with Keira Knightley, so we can look forward to his take on the amazing Alan Turing soonish. Meanwhile, fans can watch and rewatch (and rewatch...) his latest episode of "Sherlock."
