Colin Firth Talks 'Devil's Knot,' The Memphis Three and Playing the Observer (VIDEO)

Colin Firth Interview: 'Devil's Knot'

There is no shortage of films about The Memphis Three, but "Devil's Knot" is the first-ever fictionalized version of events.

Canadian director Atom Egoyan's latest movie, "Devil's Knot," (which premiered at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival), looks at the famous case from an original point-of-view: his movie follows the actions of the missing boys' mother (Reese Witherspoon) and a private investigator named Ron Lax (Colin Firth).

In the 1994 case, three teen boys were convicted of murdering three younger boys in what the prosecution called a Satanic ritual. But many believed the teens to be innocent and rallied the support of celebrities to raise money for their legal defense. In 2010, their convictions were overturned, though they were not entirely cleared of wrongdoing.

Moviefone Canada chatted with Firth at TIFF about his observer role in the movie, as well as his own personal viewpoint about what happened on that summer afternoon in Memphis.

"Devil's Knot" opens in theatres on January 24.
