While "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has yet to hit theaters, studio Marvel is reportedly so excited about the film that they're already planning its sequel -- and they want the same directing team behind it.
Variety reports that "Captain America 3" is currently in discussion at the studio, and Marvel has secured "Winter Soldier" directors Anthony and Joe Russo to return for the follow-up. While nothing has been officially greenlit yet -- Variety writes that Marvel wants to wait and see how "Winter Solider" performs before giving the go-ahead -- the studio is reportedly very impressed with the Russos' work on the second "Captain America" feature, and wants to lock them in early for a sequel.
The trade publication also notes that all the principal "Captain America" actors -- including titular star Chris Evans -- have three-picture deals with the studio, making the possibility of a third film a virtual certainty. Marvel declined to comment.
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" hits theaters on April 4. Expect news about a possible release date for "Captain America 3" to follow soon after.
