A few weeks ago we spoke to Kevin Feige, who, in addition to being the producer of "Thor: The Dark World," is also the mastermind behind the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also phrases answers like a well-trained politician, giving you just enough information to make you feel that you haven't been gypped but concealing everything important so that you can't exactly break any news.
Still, you've got to at least try to get the goods.
During our conversation, we had brought up the widely reported stories that director Alan Taylor and the creative team behind "Thor: The Dark World" had gone back in for a few weeks of additional photography. We wondered (and, please, consider this a big old SPOILER ALERT) if part of those reshoots involved the resurrection of Tom Hiddleston's Loki character, who appears to have died selflessly (or at least sort-of selflessly) in battle, trying to save the universe(s).
"Well, we did additional photography with many of the actors, including Tom, and when we do those sort of things, it's because we have a new, cool idea that we want to put in the movie," Feige explained. (See what I mean?) "And never mind that we finished principle, or the actors are in far flung parts of the world or the movie comes out in three weeks. We do whatever it takes to get new, good ideas into the movie. Some of those did include Loki, but they also included many of the other characters as well."
Well, OK. But was there ever a point when Loki was dead-with-a-capital-D? Because what is presumably the new ending, which obviously employs a green-screen and was clearly shot months after the fact (Chris Hemsworth's fake beard is particularly noteworthy), double underlines the fact that hey! Loki is still alive.
"There was no point when we thought Loki was gone for good, no," Feige said. "He's got many more stories from the comics that will be fun to see." You win this round, Feige!
