As he prepares to transition into a network late night host, Stephen Colbert has officially announced when his "Colbert Report" will end.
During a segment Thursday promoting the paperback release of his book "America Again," Colbert dropped the bomb that the "Report" would air its final episode in mid-December.
"There's an even more important reason for you to buy my book, because on December 18, my show is ending," the faux-conservative host said, to a mixture of cheers and boos from the audience. "After nine years, I am taking a well-earned vacation, though I'm not sure where yet."
Of course, viewers know that Colbert will be replacing retiring "The Late Show" host David Letterman, who's set to vacate his post sometime in early 2015. No official date for that transition has been announced just yet, nor has a premiere date for Colbert's "Late Show."
The "Report" version of Colbert also told viewers that "the guy you've seen here every night for nine years will be gone," a nod to the fact that the comedian is ditching his Comedy Central character in favor of his own voice. We're sorry to see him go, but can't wait to see what the "real" Colbert has in store.
The final episode of "The Colbert Report" will air on Thursday, December 18 at 11:30 p.m.
