Following in the steps of "Gracepoint," which originated as British television series "Broadchurch" before hopping the pond for an American version, BBC crime drama "Luther" is also getting a remake as a series on Fox.
Deadline reports that Fox has ordered a pilot for the American "Luther," to be written and produced by original series creator Neil Cross. Idris Elba, who starred as the titular character, will also executive produce the remake.
A description of the original, per Deadline:
Luther, which ran on BBC for three seasons, centered on John Luther (Elba), a near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions. While opting to end the original series after a three-season, 14-episode run, Cross has left the door open for a Luther movie starring Elba.
No word on when the remake of the Emmy-nominated drama will hit the airwaves. Stay tuned for more info, including casting.
