"X-Men: Apocalypse" has found its titular villain: Oscar Isaac has reportedly nabbed the part.
According to TheWrap, Isaac -- who stars in the upcoming "A Most Violent Year" and fellow sci-fi franchise flick "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" -- had been the frontrunner for the role, and won out over other actors including Idris Elba and Pedro Pascal. Tom Hardy was also reportedly in consideration for the part.
Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur ("the first one"), is a powerful mutant who causes massive destruction in the "X-Men" world. The sequel to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will deal with him, as well as focus on the romance between Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender).
Director Bryan Singer is returning for the latest installment in the "X-Men" franchise, and is co-writing the script. "X-Men: Apocalypse" is due in theaters on May 27, 2016.
