Hulu Nabs Amy Poehler-Produced Comedy Starring Billy Eichner

Funny Or Die Clubhouse + Facebook Pop-Up HQ @ SXSW - Day 2

Fresh off a brilliant stint on "Parks and Recreation," Billy Eichner is set to co-headline his own sitcom.

Hulu has ordered the half-hour comedy "Difficult People," co-starring Eichner and comedienne Julie Klausner, which will be produced by Eichner's "Parks" co-star Amy Poehler. Klausner and Eichner currently work together on the latter comedian's Emmy-nominated series "Billy on the Street."

According to Hulu's official announcement, "Difficult People" "follows Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner as best friends and struggling comedians in New York City who can't figure out why they aren't likeable." In addition to penning the pilot, Klausner will also produce the series.

Beatrice Springborn, Hulu's Head of Originals, had this to say about the series in a blog post:

Difficult People is one of those smart, distinctive comedy series that perfectly fits into our diverse slate of high-quality Hulu Originals.

... [W]e cannot wait to work with Universal Cable Productions to bring this series to life. With the comedic minds of Amy Poehler, Julie Klausner, Billy Eichner and Dave Becky ("Louie") behind it, we are confident that our viewers will love this show just as much as we do.

"Difficult People" is set to begin production in early 2015. No airdate has been set.
