When it comes to toy sales this holiday season, Barbie has been "Frozen" out.
Merchandise featuring Disney's blockbuster animated musical has been dominating sales and wish lists this year, with "Frozen" items knocking Barbie off of the top of the toy aisle food chain. A survey conducted by the National Retail Foundation -- which polls consumers annually about their buying habits -- asked shoppers what they planned to buy for boys and girls this year, and "Frozen"-centric gifts were the top choice for girls.
Twenty percent of parents told the NRF that they were buying items featuring Anna, Elsa, and Olaf for their daughters, compared with just 16.8 percent who said they planned to purchase something Barbie-related. This marks the first time in the NRF survey's 11-year existence that Barbie didn't claim the top spot for girls.
Another film no doubt influenced the top-seller for boys, too: LEGO products were the number one item listed as prospective gifts for guys. Warner Bros., which released "The LEGO Movie" earlier this year, no doubt thinks that that's awesome.
