After 15 seasons with CBS stalwart "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," George Eads is leaving the show.
Eads, who has starred as Nick Stokes since the show's pilot, is planning to exit the series following the close of its current season. He is the last remaining original "CSI" cast member, following the exit of Paul Guilfoyle (Capt. Jim Brass) after the end of season 14 earlier this year.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Eads's decision to split was "an amicable one" with CBS. The network had previously downgraded the 15th season of the show from 22 to 18 episodes, the first time it's ever reduced "CSI"'s episode order.
Eads's exit is just the latest in a revolving door of casting shakeups that have been ongoing throughout the last few years of the show's run. Per THR:
The procedural ... said farewell to stars William Petersen and Gary Dourdan after season nine. Marg Helgenberger departed after season 12; and original stars Jorja Fox and Eads were both briefly fired from the series in 2004 following a short-lived salary standoff with the network and CBS Television Studios. Eads remained a regular, but Fox was downgraded to a guest-star role in season nine and a recurring one in season 10, before being bumped back to regular for season 11.
Eads also had an on-set run-in with a "CSI" writer back in 2013, reportedly over a disagreement about the direction of his character. He threatened to quit and was temporarily suspended, before being reinstated by then-showrunner Carol Mendelsohn later that season.
"CSI" is set to wrap up its 15th season in early 2015, making room for spin-off "CSI: Cyber" in its Sunday timeslot.
