Universal's Rebooting Its Monster Movies With 'The Mummy'

Shared universes are so hot right now, but what's a studio to do without a giant backlog of comics to rely on? Universal might not have access to the sprawling Marvel or DC Comics' archives, but what it does have is a roster of classic monster movies. Its first official entry into the monster franchise biz will be "The Mummy," directed by Alex Kurtzman and slated for June 24, 2016, and a mysterious new monster pic the following April.

Rumors were flying that "Dracula Untold" was the first peek into Universal's monster mash-up, and even that some scenes and details were added in reshoots so Drac could figure into the bigger picture. The studio denied it at the time, but it seems that Kurtzman and Chris Morgan were brought on to "consult" on "Dracula Untold," and given that they're the two folks in charge of this spooky new franchise, well, it makes you think.

Is Charles Dance the new Nick Fury? How much more of Dracula's story remains untold? When can we get a fresh new Bride of Frankenstein? We have so many questions that it's downright scary.
