Things we know about "The World's End" filmmaker Edgar Wright's big screen version of the classic Marvel character Ant-Man: Paul Rudd will play him. And that's about it. When Disney finally confirmed Rudd's involvement, after what seemed like weeks of speculation, they didn't confirm which Ant-Man Rudd would be portraying, since there have been at least three major characters to do the silly, shrinking suit.
Well, a cryptic post on Wright's blog is leading fans to speculate on the identity of the teeny crime fighter and it might not be who you expect.
The post (as detailed by MTV) shows a single image from the animated series "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes." Underneath the screenshot is a single word: "Homework." As more eagle-eyed nerds have pointed out, the episode is entitled "To Steal an Ant-Man" and focuses on the second canonical Ant-Man, Scott Lang, a petty thief who steals the Ant-Man suit and uses it for ill-gotten gains, before finally siding on the right side of the law. The episode in question ends with Lang being appointed the new Ant-Man by Hank Pym, the scientist who originally developed the technology for the suit's shrinking abilities.
Wright's post seems to suggest that Rudd will be playing Scott Lang in the summer 2015 juggernaut, which seems all right by us, especially when you factor in earlier reports that the film was going to be a "heist movie." (Eric O'Grady, the "irredeemable" Ant-Man of "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman's run, seems to not be a factor. Which is probably well and good considering he did such super-heroic feats like spying on Ms. Marvel in the shower.)
Has Wright spilled the beans? Or are there still more secrets in store for this superhero? Could both Ant-Men be in the movie?
