This summer's "Despicable Me 2" was a huge hit for Universal, becoming the studio's highest-grossing movie of all time and scoring an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. It makes sense, then, that a follow-up is in the works -- but fans are going to have to wait a few years to see it.
"Despicable Me 3" has an official release date, and is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2017.
While that may seem like a long drought, audiences eager for more from reformed villain Gru's little yellow sidekicks will get to see a spinoff/prequel called "The Minions" next summer. That film, due out July 10, 2015, stars Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm as a villainess and her inventor husband who want to take over the world.
No word on a plot for "Despicable Me 3" yet, but expect lots more shenanigans from Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) and his trio of adorable adopted daughters.
