The battle about "Snowpiercer" is getting as epic as the battle within the movie itself.
The dystopian thriller from South Korean director Bong Joon-ho has been breaking box-office records in his own country and earning rave reviews around the world. Yet, "Snowpiercer" has yet to get a U.S. release date due to a conflict between Bong and his distributors, the Weinstein brothers. They want to cut the film by 20 minutes, but Bong wants to retain his original edit.
Their impasse is a net negative for American audiences, who are missing out on what looks like a fascinating, deeply weird post-apocalyptic mind trip. There's a new Japanese trailer and clip (via Twitch) that shows more footage -- particularly of a barely-recognizable Tilda Swinton as a madwoman of a villain.
The trailer lays out the story: The world has undergone another ice age, which killed most of humankind. The survivors live on a massive train, which has developed a strict class system. The poor live in the "tail," while the rich enjoy greater comforts in the "head." But those in the back of the train start to revolt, leading to an epic confrontation between the haves and have-nots.
"Snowpiercer" also stars Chris Chris Evans, Song Kang-Ho, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Ed Harris, and Octavia Spencer (we know, right?! What a cast!). It opens in Japan and the U.K. on February 7.
