The revolving door that is the new Steve Jobs biopic just keeps on spinning: Christian Bale has reportedly left the project.
Bale, who was just announced as the titular star of "Jobs," is now no longer a part of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Sources say Bale, after much deliberation and conflicting feelings, came to the conclusion he was not right for the part and decided to withdraw," THR writes.
Once again, filmmakers are scrambling to find a new lead. Bale was the first choice of initial "Jobs" director David Fincher; after Fincher left the project and Danny Boyle took the helm, focus turned to Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio passed, and Bale wound up with the official offer, which he took.
Less than two weeks ago, writer Aaron Sorkin ("The Social Network") had praised Bale as the perfect choice for the part. Sorkin told Bloomberg TV that the production "needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range, and that's Chris Bale."
According to THR's report, Boyle was already set to fly out to Los Angeles this week to begin meeting with more actors to fill out the film. Now, he'll need to replace Bale, too.
Last week it was reported that Seth Rogen is reportedly in talks to join the flick, in the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak; whether or not he goes through with a deal following Bale's abrupt departure remains to be seen. Jessica Chastain was also rumored to be circling the project.
