Arthur C. Clarke's follow-up novel to "2001: A Space Odyssey" is coming to television: Syfy is set to make a miniseries based on the sci-fi classic's sequel.
The cable network will adapt "3001: The Final Odyssey," the 1997 novel and fourth in Clarke's "Space Odyssey" series, which began in 1968 with "2001." The official plot description for "3001," per The Hollywood Reporter:
Starting with the discovery of Frank Poole's frozen body floating in space, 3001 explores complex characters with conflicting agendas, stunning visuals and dark thematic meditations on the final fate of all humankind.
"2001" was adapted into a feature film by Stanley Kubrick in 1968, earning critical adoration and an Oscar win. Both Kubrick and Clarke's estates have given their blessing to the Syfy project.
"3001" is set to be executive produced by Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker, from a script by Stuart Beattie ("Pirates of the Caribbean," "Collateral"). No word yet on when it's expected to hit the air.
