Ridiculously handsome and charming Aussie Hugh Jackman has been sharing carefully curated snaps of his life with the world through this photo-sharing app, and the latest is just, well, you should probably just see it for yourself. While lots of people use Instagram to try and project what Oprah would call "our best life," Jackman is using it to give us a sneak peek at his rather unfortunate 'do for Neill Blomkamp's upcoming movie "Chappie." Filming has just kicked off in Johannesburg.
Jackman's co-stars in the sci-fi comedy include Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, the voice of Sharlto Copley as Chappie, and the wonderfully weird Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja of the South African rap rave "zef" crew Die Antwoord. (Check out a pic of Yo-Landi on set here.)
It's fun to try and guess who will be playing whom in this description from the studios: "After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot." Will Weaver and Jackman play Chappie's parents or the criminals who kidnap him? Or are those people one and the same? What if they're all one big family? Is Jackman's hair really all that different than the different styles Ninja has sported over the years? Will they do a musical number? We have questions!
Die Antwoord and Blomkamp have been fans of each other for a number of years. The director's first choice for the lead role in "Elysium" was the lanky Ninja (aka Watkin Tudor Jones); in turn, Ninja has "D9," for "District 9," tattooed on his inner lip. According to the Guardian, Ninja didn't to break into movies "as an American-accented character in a Hollywood popcorn flick."
As for Yo-Landi, it was rumored that David Fincher sought her out for the role of Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," and then that he modeled the look of Lisbeth on her futuristic styles. Later, Fincher denied she was ever up for the role.
However it all shakes out, we're psyched to see what sci-fi freakery "Chappie" holds for us. Guess we'll have to start following Hugh Jackman on Instagram.
