'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Director Matt Reeves Signs on for Third 'Apes' Movie

While "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" won't be out until July 11, 2014, its director, Matt Reeves, has already been re-enlisted for dystopian duty as helmer of the franchise's third installment.

This will be Reeves's second crack at an "Apes" movie, and also his second big-budget studio flick. His big break was 2010's found footage monster movie "Cloverfield," which was written by Drew Goddard and produced by J. J. Abrams. Reeves also earned some serious film nerd cred with "Let Me In," an English-language take on the Swedish film "Let The Right One In."

Another surprising success was Fox's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which featured an Oscar-worthy performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar, the leader of the rebellious apes. The humans, led by James Franco and Freida Pinto, were overshadowed by Serkis's mo-cap work. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" looks even more encouraging with a cast that includes Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke, in addition to the return of Serkis as the increasingly scary Caesar.
