If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
"Jimmy Kimmel Live" was back with a bang following a two-week hiatus, hosting the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy." Chris Pratt, who plays Guardians leader Peter Quill, dominated the conversation, discussing his weight loss regimen ("vomiting, Zumba, and Shake Weight") and how much fun it was to shoot the film. The actor noted that he was "truly playing every day. I had a laser gun and a spaceship." But that playing came at a price, as Pratt admitted that he got so swept away shooting his fake gun that he couldn't help but making shooting noises with his mouth -- to the ire of the film crew.
The actor also sheepishly discussed calling out co-star Dave Bautista in a late night, Ambien-fueled text, where he goaded the wrestler into accepting a wrestling challenge that "nobody has to know" about. Host Jimmy Kimmel seemed delighted by the thought of Pratt and Bautista grappling, and demanded to see it happen on the show, but Pratt admitted that the fateful match already took place. "We know who won," he said glumly.
Pratt also chatted briefly about his run-in with a "feisty" raccoon while shooting a "Guardians" cover for Entertainment Weekly. Co-stars Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, who play computer-generated characters Rocket Raccoon and Groot, respectively, talked about meeting in person for the first time that very night, while other Guardians recounted how they all knew each other.
A scripted segment, Back to Back, had Kimmel sidekick Guillermo interview each actor while sitting back to back with them, each person holding a mirror. The security guard sang a duet of "You're the One That I Want" from "Grease" with Zoe Saldana, and tried to goad Diesel into taking a shot of "tequila water" with him. While Diesel passed, Pratt pretended he was game, forcing Guillermo to take several drinks while the actor threw his away. They also chatted about Pratt's sitcom, "Parks and Decoration," which Pratt described as an HGTV series where two men give makeovers to parks.
In Mia vs. Marvel, each "Guardians" actor was pitted against the 5-year-old comics expert, who schooled them all on "Guardians" trivia. While it was pretty obvious that the cast let her win, her knowledge of the Marvel universe was indeed impressive, as she got all 15 questions correct -- and won a boatload of "Guardians" toys and a trip to Disneyland for her troubles.
Over on "The Tonight Show," host Jimmy Fallon played Box of Lies with "Wish I Was Here" star Kate Hudson, with the pair playing chicken with each other's ability to fib. While Hudson claimed to be very competitive, she couldn't help but break out in giggles when trying to describe her odd items, which included a bowl of pennies with a spoon stuck in it, and a toy turtle suspended in a Jell-O mold. That didn't stop her from claiming victory, though.
"Conan" featured what host Conan O'Brien claimed to be the first-ever celebrity #Selfishie, which guest Carl Reiner said he invented. The concept is simple: Two celebs take a selfie together, but one of them is in the foreground, partially blocking the other's face. Reiner graciously agreed to let Conan be the star of their own backstage selfishie, and the host's giant red hair definitely dominates the snap.
"Dumb and Dumber To" star Jeff Daniels stopped by "The Late Show," where he and host David Letterman chatted about the long-awaited sequel. Daniels noted that not much has changed with Harry and Lloyd in 20 years. "We have aged, to some degree, but intellectually, intelligently, we haven't gained an ounce," he said. Daniels also discussed his surprise 2013 Emmy win for Best Actor in a Drama for "The Newsroom," noting that even his wife expected him to finish fifth or sixth in his stacked category, until "the wrong people started winning" that night. Suddenly, the actor found himself on stage having to give an acceptance speech -- and forgot to take out his gum. "Dumb and Dumber" co-star Jim Carrey had some gentle ribbing for him following that faux pas, Daniels said.
And finally, on "Chelsea Lately," "Breaking Bad" star Dean Norris discussed the show's boatload of Emmy nominations, and how he'll have to miss the ceremony because he's shooting a film in Romania where he plays Benjamin Franklin. Norris and host Chelsea Handler talked about Franklin's reputation for being a boozy sex fiend, while a discussion about Norris's suitability to play the founding father led the actor to flirt with a few female members of the audience -- and devolved into an odd fixation on Norris's tongue.
