Toronto Film Festival 2014: Big Movies, Lineup Announced

The Toronto Film Festival is coming back, big-time, for its 39th year.

Of the 13 and 46 special presentations announced, this initial lineup (there will be more announcements over the next several weeks) includes 37 world premieres from directors including Canadians Jean-Marc Vallée, David Cronenberg, Alan Rickman, and Chris Rock.

"Toronto can anticipate another remarkable lineup of films," said Handling. "Cinema's collective and transformative experience lives at the heart of our Festival -- a sentiment that inspires the global dialogue rippling throughout the selections."

"We can't wait to present the new films from some of cinema's brightest talents," said Bailey. "This year we'll welcome filmmakers from France, Germany, China, the U.K., the U.S. and more to red carpets in Toronto."

From A-listers like Robert Downey, Jr., Kate Winslet and Reese Witherspoon to fascinating thespians like the late James Gandolfini and the red-hot Benedict Cumberbatch, it's anyone's guess who'll be coming to Toronto for the Festival. We'll have to wait a few weeks to find out for sure.

The Festival's closer has been chosen: Alan Rickman's "A Little Chaos," starring Kate Winslet and Stanley Tucci, will be closing up the fest. The opening film has not yet been decided upon.

The 2014 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 4 to 14.
