Spoiler etiquette for "Game of Thrones" has always been complicated since the HBO drama is based on George R. R. Martin's books (though the show is catching up!).
But there's one huge question that hasn't been answered in the books yet: Who is Jon Snow's mother? Book readers have been debating theories about that for years, and fans of the show are now getting in on the action. Now, Sean Bean -- who played Ned Stark, Jon's beheaded father -- has seemingly confirmed the top theory about Jon's mother!
[SPOILERS]
So, earlier this week, the Internet was abuzz about a video a fan made outlining evidence for that prevailing theory, which is titled "R+L=J." Basically, the theory is that Jon's true parents are Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister). Watch the fan's video here.
The evidence is pretty good, but nothing is confirmed. Nobody in the books has ever outright said that Jon is not Ned's bastard son. And nobody outside of the books -- especially Martin himself -- has ever revealed that either. Until now.
In an interview with Vulture, Bean let out the beans with a very telling quote. He was chatting about whether he might return to "Game of Thrones" to film flashback scenes.
"I've definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there," he said. "I'm obviously not Jon Snow's dad. And you need that to be revealed at some point, don't you?"
I'm obviously not Jon Snow's dad.
Totally obvious now!
(Thanks, Sean Bean! Let's hope this doesn't cause you to suffer the same fate as Ned Stark.)
