It's been a while since we've had a good "find the Nazi (fill in the blank)," but thankfully that long, cruel drought will come to an end in January when Jude Law (who seems to be on a bit of a career upswing after a pair of brilliant performances in equally brilliant Steven Soderbergh movies and a nifty little cameo in Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel") goes hunting for Nazi gold in "Black Sea." We've got the trailer, and it's pretty gripping stuff indeed.
"Black Sea," which was written by Dennis Kelly (whose BBC series "Utopia" is currently being adapted for HBO by David Fincher and Gillian Flynn), concerns a group of rogues who take a British submarine to the Black Sea in the search for lost Nazi gold. Of course, things get decidedly more treacherous than even the inky blackness of the bottom of the ocean, when the rogues decide to turn on one another. It looks really, really intense.
We'd also like to take a moment to acknowledge that both Ben Mendelsohn and Scoot McNairy are in this movie, making it a mini-"Killing Them Softly" reunion. Yes, for the three of us that absolutely adore "Killing Them Softly."
The movie, directed by "Last King of Scotland" director Kevin Macdonald, opens in December in the UK but will wash up on American shores on January 23rd. Take the treasure hunter you love.
